Are you feeling the urge to break away from your desk and explore somewhere new while maintaining a productive work life? If so, then a workation may be just what you need.

In the months leading up to living a 100% digital nomad life, I added workations to my schedule. As a corporate executive in New York, I could not just walk away from the office and see if things would work out. I found that these workations prepared me, my team, and my clients for my upcoming permanent lifestyle on the road. A dress rehearsal if you like.

A workation is a concept that combines working remotely with travel. I would, for example, plan a workation in Mexico where I would spend some time scuba diving while still keeping up with work and (remote) meetings. Some days I would take off (it’s still kind of a vacation), and other days, I would work the whole day with my global team. And some days, I would have a mixed day where I went diving in the morning and was at my computer in the afternoon and evening.

Workations come in different shapes and forms.

Some people don’t mix up their days, but they plan a vacation and add extra days to it while they work remotely. Another great way to spend time exploring the lifestyle. For many people I’ve met, workations are the way they satisfy their wanderlust without having to commit to life permanently on the road.

Planning a workation is a great way to combine the best of both worlds: work and vacation. Taking time off to work remotely in an exciting location can be an affordable and refreshing way to break up the monotony of your regular routine. Before you plan your workation, consider the environment that best suits your business needs, such as reliable internet, comfortable workspace, and proper accommodations. If you’re looking for more than just peace and quiet, find locations that offer activities like hiking, watersports, or exploring new cultures.

With thorough planning and research, a successful workation awaits!

A workation can be an excellent opportunity to take your career on the road and discover new places while still being productive. If you’re considering giving a workation a try, remember to manage your expectations, set some boundaries, and ensure you have a good internet connection. And if you’ve tried a workation or are currently living the digital nomad life, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!

How do you plan a workation?

Planning a workation can be an exciting yet daunting task. To get off to the right start, it’s essential to know your ultimate goal: are you looking to refresh and reboot in a beautiful place? Connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs? Or find some well-deserved time away from the office or home workspace? Once your intent is clarified, the next step is to create a timeline of where and when you want your workation to take place and how long it will last. It’s also important to set realistic goals while there; what do you want to accomplish during your workation? Researching the best places to stay that combine comfort and convenience is paramount for a successful and unencumbered workation.
